Coming Friday (in the print edition; tomorrow online) in The Daily Times Weekend entertainment section — an interview with ace fiddler Sara Watkins, formerly of Nickel Creek. She’ll perform Thursday, April 15, at The Square Room in downtown Knoxville, and we had a great phone conversation about a month ago. Here’s what she had to say about the possibility of reuniting with her brother Sean Watkins and mandolin player Chris Thile:
“We’re open to it, but we just know that right now is not the time,” she said. “We keep in touch and see each other often; Chris comes to LA, we go to New York, and we love hanging out and catching up. But it takes a lot of time to get these projects going.
“Who knows? It could happen all of the sudden, it could happen in 5 to 10 years or it could happen never. We want to be really protective of the time we had together and not hasten any kind of reunion without it being just right, because we love it so much. We don’t want to ruin it with any kind of musical pressure.”
