Disc Exchange fleshes out Record Store Day lineup
Although there may not be any heavy hitters like Wilco, who stopped by last year, set for this year’s Record Store Day extravaganza at The Disc Exchange — not yet, anyway — it’s still gonna be a heckuva fun day. And since DE is one of the few free-standing brick-and-mortar music stores still around, as well as one that’s locally owned, wonderfully eclectic and downright freakin’ badass, you should definitely be in attendance on that day (Saturday, April 17).
The store, located at 2615 Chapman Highway, will feature a number of specials, exclusive Record Store Day releases, door prizes, grub by Sweet P’s BBQ and in-store performances by Silver Jubilee, Second String, Greg Horne, Robinella, Quartjar, Wampus Cat, Leslie Woods and The Shazam.

In other Disc Exchange news, the local music radio show “Homegrown,” aired on Wednesday nights on WFIV-FM, 105.3, will begin broadcasting live from DE starting this week! It’s on from 7-9 p.m., and the decision to join forces, according to a press release, “reinforces (the station’s) commitment to bringing attention to Knoxville’s local music scene. Each hour is dedicated to a local artist.” This week, it’s Erick Baker from 7-8 p.m. and Travis Singleton from 8-9 p.m.; next Wednesday, April 14, it’s Ralph Jeffers from 7-8 p.m. and Grandpa’s Stash from 8-9 p.m.
Finally, the rock band Sevendust will make an in-store appearance to sign albums and memorabilia at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 21. The band will perform later on that night at The Valarium with Nonpoint, Day of Fire and Hail the Villain. Tickets to that show, which starts at 7 p.m., are $24 in advance and $26 at the door; we’ll have an interview with Clint Lowery of Sevendust in the Friday, April 16 edition of The Daily Times Weekend section.
Wilco World: Disc Exchange to get a visit from alt-country kings on Saturday!
I was already planning on hitting up the Wilco show at The Tennessee Theatre on Saturday night. Got kind of nervous at first because of the sell-out, but PR girl Deb Bernardini came through with a couple of tickets.
For those of you without the luxury of such hook-ups, there’s good news — Wilco won’t be performing there, but according to Pitchfork, the guys will put in an appearance at The Disc Exchange, Knoxville’s most excellent music store, located on Chapman Highway. It’s part of National Record Store Day (which you can read about here), which will feature live music and appearances by all sorts of local and regional acts, all day long. Here’s the lineup:
Van Eaton and Friends at noon (read a recent interview here)
Greg Koons at 1 p.m
The Rockwells at 3:30 p.m.
Wild Sweet Orange at 4:30 p.m.
Tenderhooks at 5:30 p.m. (read last fall’s story on the band here)
John Paul Keith and the One Four Fives at 6:30 p.m. (read today’s interview with JPK here)
Cutthroat Shamrock at 7:30 p.m. (read a recent story here)
