K-Town Sound Local Music Showcase: next Saturday
It’s a wonder that those of us covering local music around these parts don’t pull our hair out. (Another reason I shave mine.) Every time we turn around, it seems there’s another event popping up that’s slipped in under the radar. For example, the K-Town Sound Local Music Showcase, which is being presented by WDVX-FM and taking place from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, at the World’s Fair Park Amphitheatre in downtown Knoxville.
On the bill: The Bearded, The Drunk Uncles, The Leadbetters with Phil Leadbetter, Brendon James Wright and The Wrongs, Van Eaton and Friends, The Early Morning Stringdusters, The Tennessee Shines Band, The Black Cadillacs, Y’uns, Medford’s Black Record Collection and more.
The cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the gate; UT students are admitted for $5; children 12 and younger are admitted free.
For more information, call WDVX at 544-1029 or visit the station online.
Show at Ironwood Studios in Knoxville!
Got a message from my pals in Medford’s Black Record Collection yesterday about a show tonight (July 3) in Knoxville:
Hello folks,
Just wanted to let you all know that we’ll be down at Ironwood Studios on Jennings Ave. just off Central tomorrow night during First Friday. Heather Hutton will be debuting her provocative new art exhibit, “A Minefield of a Precious Memory.” There will be potluck and the event is free and BYOB. The Songbirds will kick off th music at 7, followed by MBRC then Duke Brown and Tim Lee 3 and guests. Doors open at 5 for viewing the exhibit. If you’ve never been to Ironwood, it’s a really cool place and the last time we were at a party there they blew up a replica Sunsphere. Here’s their site for directions: http://mcgilvraywoodworks.com/ironwood.html
Don’t forget about the Jug Train on 7/18 at Barley’s with Angel Snow and Roman Reese and the Cardinal Sins. It’s gonna be a doozey.
Happy Fourth,
Medford’s Black Record Collection
